Surrounded by the vast Shivalik Range, Dehradun is a heavenly city for mountain lovers. Being the Capital of Uttarakhand, it’s also the most developed one and is the hub for a number of adventure sports, including paragliding and river rafting. Although it’s humanly impossible to cover all the tourist attractions of Dehradun in one day, with proper planning, you can experience the city’s essence in just one day. Follow the below itinerary, and you’re good to go.
Puri Sabji for breakfast
Before you start your day, head to the local eateries and try the puri bhaji or bread pakoda; they are the two most commonly eaten breakfasts here.
Zonal Museum
Founded in the year 1971, the Zonal Museum is a must-visit tourist spot in Dehradun that educate you about the existence of humankind through its ancient artefacts.
Timings: Mon-Sat: 10 am- 1 pm

Closed on Sundays and second Saturdays

Robber’s cave
After some knowledge-gaining sessions at the zonal museum, go on a short trek into the Robber’s cave that will take you to a gorgeous waterfall. As per the locals, the cave is also considered an abode for Lord Shiva.

Garhwali Thali at Rajpur Road
Once in Dehradun, you can’t miss on trying the mouth-watering Garhwali thali, which is usually a mixture of four-five different curries served with a Garhwali appetiser called Pithora (Spinach & Lentil Pakoda), Gehat ki dal, mandua roti and steamed rice.
Clock Tower
After a refreshing lunch, you can head to the most famous landmark of Dehradun, the Clock Tower, whose ticking sound once could be heard from many kilometres away. Situated on Rajpur Road, the market around the Clock Tower is best for doing some quick souvenir shopping.
Forest Research Insititute
End the trip with an exploration of one of its kind institute of forestry research in India. The Institute is also known for its attractive architecture and has been a favourite spot for film shootings.
