Apart from its clean beaches, the city has a historical significance which has wooed people from all across the globe, especially for its unique festivals like the Vadakara festival. It’s also a famous exporter of premium spices and hence popularly regarded as the city of spices. Here are the things you can do in the city if you’re planning a day trip to Kozhikode.
Tali Temple
This 14th century Lord Shiva temple is one of the major attractions in Kozhikode because of the unique avatar of Lord Shiva it houses, a combination of Shiva and Parvathi named Uma Maheshwara. It was also once a hub for scholarly discussions by the renowned philosophers of the 15th and 16th centuries.

Next, make your way to an eatery that serves Ari Dosa, also known as Malabar Dosa which is thin chappatis made of rice flour served with coconut chutney and achaar.
Kappad Beach
After a delicious breakfast, head to the beautiful Kappad Beach, which is famous for its cleanliness and tranquil surroundings. It is also said to be the place where the renowned explorer Vasco da Gama first landed in 1498.

Being a coastal region, it’s obvious that Kozhikode offers a variety of seafood to try. However, if you ask us, we will recommend you order Shark curry, which is cooked with grated coconut.
Mother of God Cathedral
Head to the 15th century Mother of God Cathedral, known for the 200-year-old picture of St Mary on its wall and Gothic-style design.

After a busy sightseeing expedition, you can end your exploration at Beypore Beach and can spend some quiet time here. The place is known for offering ayurvedic massage, and if you’ve got time, don’t shy away from getting one.
